My first steps

Getting here has not been entirely clear, I don’t know the exact moment when painting, creativity, colors and art itself entered my life. My self-discovery process took time, at age 15 I began to paint wooden boards that my sister brought home from work, in my first attempts to paint I was inspired by superheroes and made a painting line of their shields, then I hung them on the walls of the house and apparently my mother and sisters liked them,so I decided to give them to my nephews on special dates; they with all the love received them and decorated their rooms. Months later I explored painting phrases, I made several but none convinced me and I only threw them away although there was one that I liked and still have, this one says “Good vibes only” and beyond the message it was because of the typography that I achieved without even having studied or reviewed letters before. But then I put the painting aside, forgotten and took care of other aspects of my life, deep down it was due to insecurity, I did not believe enough in myself and I thought that anyone could do the same and even better.

A huge change

I moved to the United States at 18 to live with my father, after the first months he told me that the house lacked color, I decided to buy some materials and one afternoon while we were watching a movie together I resumed painting, I made a bull to which I named Don Jaime (currently he is one of my favorites) my dad loved him from the first moment he saw him, but I only thought that he was doing it just because parents see everything their children make like a real work of art when they may not be, a few weeks later we had a family reunion and some of them asked me where I had bought that painting, I answered that I did it and immediately I saw a smile on their faces , we began to talk about future paintings for their homes, I did not understand what was happening and I had a mess of emotions that did not fit in my head the fact of being able to sell my paintings one day or that someone outside my family would like to have them.

Be confident

Although I doubted it for a long time, I decided to publish a painting that I did for my uncle’s house; This work represents several challenges for me, first the canvas format, it was my first large-scale painting, it is also full body, the handling of shadows, angles and movement, it took me 6 months to finish it, because inspiration comes and goes The more I tried to paint on the days when nothing inspired me, the more I had to repeat on those when I wanted to paint even my clothes. Someone who I appreciate very much and I owe a large part of my work is Mauricio, an artist in every sense of the word and above all a constant support in my artistic and professional growth, he encouraged me to create an instagram to publish my paintings, sketches, cell phone cases, and everything I could think of to add color and from then on there is Navasartist, my personal brand and with which I want to convey who I am and give them a pinch of color in their lives.
